I'm
fired-up about the fact that God has allowed me to get out there
and entertain folks like yourself. But the original
songs that He gave me to write and perform, take on a whole new life when
they are embraced by long-time musicians. Enter "The Gulf
Stream Band".
The Gulf Stream
brings warm water and life to the north and so, what better name
for the back-up band that does the same for "Bill Mallia music".
These days, as we cruise along with the "Unplugged:
Just The Way I Wrote Them" show, there are a few less road
dogs on the bus. Here's a look at some of the main players that I've assembled
for this sunny task.
Along
for select dates on the "Endless
Summer Tour",
Indieheaven
artist Samuel Bowen has been performing, writing and playing guitar
for over 25 years. He has worked with local, regional and national
artist over the years including, Shawn Colvin, Trace Balin, Steve
Camp, David Mallet, Raging Grace, Michael Sweet, Evie Haskell,
Herson Gonzalez, and many more. Sam has performed in clubs,
coffeehouses, outdoor festivals, youth group events, Church events,
benefit concerts, radio station concerts, and living rooms. Sam has
appeared on well known stages including, Old Vienna Coffeehause,
Indian Ranch, Carpenter’s workshop, Boston Common, Douglas Camp
Meeting House, The Mill and many more.
Sam’s
first CD single “Built To Last” received air play in the South East
radio market and his song from that album ‘Nothing You Can Do” was
chosen for the CD “Oasis Inspirational” His second CD “Under the
Surface” resulted in the “Sam Bowen Bands” first tour to Ireland.
Sam is known for his unique finger style guitar and crisp clear
emotion packed vocals.
“Cutting Edge
Magazine” said about Sam’s music, "This is music that you can sit by
the fire with or start fires with,” Singer songwriter and producer
JJ Blair wrote, "Sam has a full bodied musical and spiritual vision
in what he does.” Long time Nashville producer (and a good
Man) Mike Johnson says, "Sam is a very talented singer/songwriter
who is committed to his faith.”
In 2005 and 2006, Sam was nominated by his fans for
the Indieheaven “Momentum Awards” for “Best Male Vocalist,” and
“Best Acoustic Album.” Sam’s new CD “Speak To Me” is a full blown
blues and acoustic rock experience packed with thought provoking
lyrics. Produced by Sam with the help of long time friend and
producer Bob Evarts, and Kenny Lewis (Stryper, Freddie Jackson,
Northern lights).

Les
Worsham, the Gulf Stream Band's drummer and percussion
player says when he plays Bill's music, he feels like an
island boy who has come home. He's the only member of
the Gulf Stream Band to have actually have lived in the
beloved Caribbean where he was camped out on the island of
St Eustatius (or "Statia" as the locals call it) for a
number of years running his own scuba business.
Les is still a PADI Master Scuba instructor with twenty
years of experience under his weight belt, but these days
he's spending more time with drum sticks in his hands.
Over the past decades, he's had the chance to work with Anne
Rich and Exodus and most recently with Cape Cod's Kat
Newland. Les has supported several worship teams
including Calvary Chapel Boston and Cape Cod and the
Vineyard Fellowship in Kingston, Massachusetts.
"I was born to play music and have always asked the
question the same question Larry Norman did, 'Why should the devil have all the good music?'"
